We will make a billet with ~2 kg output especially for you. You can decide what thickness and width the finished steel should have and what the pattern of the steel should look like. The length is determined by the mass and the cross-section. If the billet is longer than 600mm, we have to divide it into two pieces of approximately the same size. Production takes place within 4-8 weeks from receipt of payment.

Developed and manufactured to high quality standards, this fire-welded steel is perfect for making high-quality chef's knives using the stock removal process. Thanks to its excellent toughness with a hardness range of 63-68 HRC, the forge welded ApexUltra Nickel surpasses other steels with such a high hardness.

Recommended hardness range of the cutting layer: 63-68 HRC. 5-layer steel with ApexUltra core layer, nickel diffusion barrier and black-etching 80CrV2 as the top layer.

We normalize, grain refine and anneal the steel after forge welding and forging/rolling to save you these time-consuming steps as a knifemaker and to get the best possible performance from the steel. So you can start sawing or grinding the contour straight away.
To bring out the natural texture of the steel, we gently remove the scale instead of just grinding the surface.
We straighten the steels as best we can in this step. Fine straightening can still be beneficial after contour grinding and before hardening.
Recommended hardening: 830°C for 10 minutes, quenching in medium or fast oil. Temper at 175°C for 2x2 hours with cooling to room temperature before each tempering cycle. You can find more information on hardening in the ApexUltra data sheet: [https://www.apexultrasteel.com/downloads].
The cutting layer makes up about 30% of the material thickness.
There may be small (<8mm) embossed markings on the ends of the pieces to prevent confusion.
