We'll custom-make a package for you with approximately 2 kg of output from 120 mm wide starting material. This typically means you'll get 2-3 knives on top of each other. You decide how thick you want the finished steel to be and what the pattern should look like. The length depends on the mass and the cross-section. If the package is longer than 600 mm, we'll have to divide it into two roughly equal pieces to heat-treat the steel. Production will take place within 4-8 weeks from receipt of payment.
Examples of 2kg output in different thicknesses:
~2x120x1050 --> 2 pieces, each 525mm long
~3x120x700mm --> 2 pieces, each 350mm long
~4x120x520mm
~5x120x420mm
Developed and manufactured to high quality standards, this hot-dip welded steel is perfect for the production of high-hardness knives using the stock removal process. Thanks to its excellent toughness with a hardness range of 63-68 HRC, ApexUltra Nickel Go Mai outperforms other steels with such high hardness.
Recommended hardness range of the cutting layer: 63-68 HRC. 5-layer steel with ApexUltra core layer, copper diffusion barrier, and black-etching 80CrV2 as the top layer.
After forge welding and forging/rolling, we normalize, grain refine, and anneal the steel to eliminate these time-consuming steps for you as a knifemaker and achieve the best possible performance from the steel. This means you can start sawing or grinding the contour right away.
To bring out the steel's natural texture, we gently remove the scale instead of simply grinding the surface.
We straighten the steels as best we can in this step. Fine straightening can still be beneficial after contour grinding and before hardening.
Recommended hardening: 830°C for 10 minutes, quenching in medium or fast oil. Temper at 175°C for 2 x 2 hours with cooling to room temperature before each tempering cycle. Further information on hardening can be found in the ApexUltra data sheet: [https://www.apexultrasteel.com/downloads].
The cutting edge makes up approximately 30% of the material thickness.
Small (<8mm) embossed markings may be found on the ends of the pieces to prevent confusion.

It is a raw material for making knives using the stock removal process. The pictures of the knives are merely examples of how this steel can be used; the knives are not part of the article offered here. The steels offered are not stainless. The copper contained can react with acidic foods when it comes into contact with them. Since this is a custom-made product, returns or exchanges are unfortunately not possible. Rolling tolerances: +/- 0.3 mm thickness, +5 / -0 mm in width
