Produced according to high quality standards, this forge-welded steel, Böhler K720 / 1.2842 and 75Ni8, is perfect for manufacturing high-quality knives using the stock removal method.
Recommended hardness range at the edge: 58-62.5 HRC, with Böhler K720 / 1.2842 and 75Ni8.
The steel is normalized, grain refined, and annealed by us after forge welding and forging/rolling, in order to take these time-consuming steps off your hands as a knife maker and achieve the best possible performance from the steel. You can therefore start directly with cutting or grinding the contour.
The surface of these blanks has already been ground to reveal the damask pattern.
We straighten the steels as well as possible at this stage. Fine-tuning can still be beneficial after contour grinding and before hardening.
Recommended hardening: 810°C for 10 minutes, quenching in medium or fast oil.
Tempering at 175°C for 2x2 hours with cooling to room temperature before each tempering cycle.
The damask pattern will vary slightly from piece to piece and is not identical to the ground sample piece. This is a raw material for making knives using the stock removal method. The pictures of the knives are merely examples of the use of this steel; the knives are not part of the item offered here. The offered steels are not stainless.
